Êilkobyz - the Kazakh 2 stringed bow instrument. It is produced from one piece of a tree. Strings are made from a bunch of horsehair, adjustment - a quart, a quint. Hold vertically, place on a knee. It is known since 8th century. The creater is the great Korkyt. Storytellers (zhyrshy), singers (anshy), shamans played on it. |

Kurmangazy Academic orchestra of national instruments
The orchestra of the name of Kurmangazy was created on June,
25, 1934. The orchestra’s founder was academician Ahmet Kuanovich Zhubanov.
After him about forty years the collective was headed by the National actor
of the USSR, the Kazakhstan State premium Winner, the gentleman of award "Parasat",
professor Kazhigaliev Shamgon Sagitdinovich.
The orchestra is the participant of many international and republican forums,
festivals, competitions, decades, holidays, tribunes, conferences. It is the
owner of the first premium and the winner of the IV World festival of youth
and students in Bucharest (1953). It was appropriated honorary titles such
as « the Deserved collective of Republic » (1967ã.), "Academic"
(1978ã.), and on November, 29, 1984 was awarded with “Friendship of peoples”
award. Tour-concert activity is wide. It represented individual performing
school not only in Kazakhstan and in the CIS, but also abroad - Poland, Romania,
Hungary, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Finland, France, Sweden, Portugal, Denmark,
India, Chinese Peoples Republic, Afghanistan...
Many oustanding soloists gave concerts with it: S.Lemeshev, K.Bayseitova,
R.Baglanova, L.Zykina, S.Kiizbaeva, B.Tulegenova, R.Dzhamanova, Ð., M.Abdulliny,
A.Dnishev, G.Esimov, N.Usenbaeva, Z.Baspakova, S.Abilov and others.
Today creative generation (new collective) is true to nice art and performing
traditions of the founders of the orchestra. Our founders – D.Nurpeisova,
L.Muhitov, U.Yskakov, U.Kabigozhin, Ê.Medetov, Ê.Zhantleuov, G.Bayazitova,
Zh.Kalambaev, R.Omarov, F.Balgaeva; representatives of average generation
- A.Sharipov, B.Karabalina, K.Ahmedyarov, T.Tkishev, U.Hamza, M.Kalenbaeva,
T.Shamelov, G.Iztleuova, A.Atygaev, G.Daukenova, K.Kalambaeva, G.Kabasheva,
L.Shonova, L.Mazovaj.
Talented youth more sure declares themselves with the individual performing
handwriting - A.Ahatov, E.Basygaraev, Zh.Ermagambetova, S.Sabyrgalieva, A.Kalekesheva,
T.Polotoe, R.Baymuhatov.
The orchestra has huge audience on TV, radio, rich discography, film-record.
The main line in development and formation of repertoir of an orchestra (about
four thousand product!) - in alive connection with life of our people, in
display of our validity. On February, 18, 2003 the orchestra has acted on
the new stage of the Big Theatre. It was devoted to the Year of Kazakhstan
in Russia, and next day the orchestra has given a solo concert in Column hall
of the House of the Unions. In October, 2004 the orchestra will celebrate
70-th anniversary.
There are70 musicians in structure of the orchestra. The collective can leave
up in structure of 20 persons on near and foreign performances, i.e. by small
groups.
Today the main conductor, the honored worker of Kazakhstan, professor Aytkali
Zhajymov heads the art part of the orchestra. And director, the honored worker
of Kazakhstan Yerkebulan Musrep heads the general management of the orchestra.
